The Snow Child

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey was excellent! I loved this book. The story opens with Mabel and you are immediately drawn into the story as Mabel tries to end her life. The year is 1920, the place Alaska, and Mabel and her husband Jack are trying to survive in this difficult place. What brings them to Alaska and what propels the story is Mabel and Jack's childless family. After the first snowfall of the season the couple go out and build a child out of snow. Mabel believes that this child has come to life to complete their family. Sometimes things are not as they seem or are they? The story is enchanting and hard to put down once you begin reading it. The library has a copy on the shelf if you can get your hands on it.

Word of the Week

The word of the week is buncombe or bunkum. It's appropriate for the political climate we are in at present. The answer is in the comments below.

The Dressmaker by Kate Alcott

I just finished listening to the novel The Dressmaker. If you like a good story with a historic foundation, try this. It is set around the sinking of the Titanic, and the politics around the investigation that followed. There are well-developed characters and a little romance.

Hunger Games New Trailer

Hunger Games comes out in theaters on March 23rd! Who is going???? By the way, the Teen Advisory Group made a Hunger Games trailer a few years ago. I can definitely see resemblances.  We just need a Hollywood budget!
